We pay fees with money. Yet if we really wish to pay with the fees in its original meaning, the transaction would be tedious, cumbersome and heavy.

In old English Feoh meant cattle. Before the invention of money, cattle were bartered for other goods. People would pay in cattle and buy whatever they wanted.

Feoh later got modified to fees.
