H61 to H65

#61. Life is so uncertain.

We do not what lies in store

for us the next day!

We do not know whose help and

grace we may need tomorrow.

So it is really wise

always to be nice

even to little mice

since in fact Life is

a game of dice.

#62. Undivided attention!

Girls and women WANT to be heard and listened to.
But men either pretend not to hear or DO not really hear!
The best gift you can ever give to a girl /woman/ lady is
your undivided attention!
How many times has anyone given this in one’s life time???

#63. “Can you remain silent?”

A child will reveal its impressions without any inhibitions in front of the guests.

The parents had warned their cute little daughter not to comment on the appearance of the people who visited them.

A real fat couple visited them once and the little girl could not contain herself to comment until after they left.

She said very sweetly to her mother,”F.A.T no???”

Code language helps at times for exchanging important info without attracting too much attention.

When one of us might be giving out irrelevant info to the visitors, my father used the expression
“se su hi” to stop us from going on !!!

It was actually the short form of “சத்தே சும்மா இருக்கியா?”
meaning “Can you remain silent?”

But nobody had guessed it till now!

#64. People who take more than their share of space…

A father and a son got into our compartment. The four friends (helpers?) following them carried four

cubical flexible bags. I was seeing such bags for the very first time in my life.

It would NOT go under the seat in any orientation. But those hefty fellows somehow pushed the bags under

both the long seats filling the space there completely.

All the other five passengers who shared the same cubicle had to keep their things on their berths and

sleep. The people who had taken more than their allotted space never felt guilty, not apologized even

formally. World is full of such people who grab more than their share of air, water, space, power and

energy…without batting an eyelid!

#65. A poem which would melt any heart!

Don’t Ask My Child to Fly
(by Bruce Ritchie 1997)

Don’t ask my child to fly,
for he has not wings.

Don’t ask my child to see the glint on the eagle’s beak,
for his vision has been diminished.

Don’t ask my child to remain calm amid the din,
for her ability to screen out the noises has been taken away.

Don’t ask my child to be careful with “strangers”,
for he is affectionate with everyone and prey for the unscrupulous.

Don’t ask my child to “settle down”,
for the clock which works for you and I, does not exist for her.

Don’t ask my child to not play with the toys of others,
for he has no concept of property.

Don’t ask my child to remember you tomorrow,
although you met today.

Don’t ask my child to heal your wounds,
for her hands cannot hold a scalpel or sutures.

Don’t ask my child to meet the challenges set by society,
for you have denied her the tools.

Don’t ask my child to forgive you for standing idly by,
while he was being tortured in his mother’s womb,

for he will,
but He may not.

Foot notes:

Alcohol (wine, beer or liquor) is the leading known preventable cause of developmental and physical birth defects in the United States.

When a woman drinks alcohol during pregnancy, she risks giving birth to a child who will pay the price — in mental and physical deficiencies — for his or her entire life.

Yet many pregnant women do drink alcohol. It’s estimated that each year in the United States, 1 in every 750 infants is born with a pattern of physical, developmental, and functional problems referred to as fetal alcohol syndrome (FAS), while another 40,000 are born with fetal alcohol effects (FAE).
