In 1780, a theater manager in Dublin had laid a bet that he could introduce a new word English within 24

hours. He spent the entire night in chalking the word QUIZ on the walls throughout the city.

Next day the new word was on every one’s lips but no one really knew what the word meant!

So the word acquired the meaning of a puzzle.

Now quiz denoted a set of puzzling questions.
